If you've been following our 1% for the planet journey, you'll know that this year we have been donating to causes that work to look after our oceans, threatened eco systems and marine wildlife. One of the organisations we've been contributing towards this year is MCS (Marine Conservation Society).
MCS are a UK charity fighting for a cleaner, better-protected & healthier ocean, for more than 30 years MCS have been working to protect the UK’s seas and wildlife. They have implemented bans on single-use items, presented legislations to better manage fisheries, and bring awareness among supermarkets of the need to stock sustainable seafood. Their goal is to recover the health of the ocean; for the sake of our wildlife, our climate and our own wellbeing.
In support of all the amazing work that MCS do, and part of our ongoing commitment to 1% for the planet, we have designed a marine life inspired T-Shirt in which all the proceeds will be donated to The Marine Conservation Society.
Every September thousands of people take to the beach all over the UK to take part in the MCS Great British Beach Clean. A week long event where hundreds of beach cleans take place up and down the UK coastlines. As well as cleaning the beaches, litter data is collected which drives their conservation work and also feeds into the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC).
The data has been used to make a positive impact on our ocean - including the introduction of the plastic bag charge, banning microplastics in personal care products and supporting a tax on single-use plastic items.
If you want to get involved in a beach clean near you this weekend you can sign up here.
